Stone Art and Engraving at the Berkshire Arts Festival

In July, we attended the Berkshire Arts Festival. It’s been a minute since we brought our Stonescapes show on the road to a trade show or festival, but we got back in the groove quickly.

As we develop the stone engraving component of Stonescapes, our goal in attending the Berkshire Arts Festival was to gain visibility and connect with potential clients. Attending a festival that centers the arts also highlights our creative approach to designing fine art stone engraving and memorials.

We were excited to have this opportunity, but honestly, we weren’t totally sure how our work would land with the attendees.

(Just kidding. There was definitely sweat.)

The Stonescapes crew helped us set up our booth during that early July heatwave — but we’re definitely no strangers to wrangling rocks in the blistering summer heat. Our booth was well-positioned to draw the attention of passersby, and we had a pop-up tent to get some shade.

We chose representative examples of our stone engraved fine art pieces and memorials, set up our table with our Stonescapes portfolio, and as a finishing touch, accented our booth space with planters of fresh flowers.

We were the only vendors exhibiting in stone at the Festival, and it’s always a good thing to be unique at a festival or show. That meant that lots of folks were curious about our work and had questions for us — also a very good thing.

A few people were surprised to see memorials at an Arts Festival. However, as we discussed examples — whether to commemorate the life a loved one, or as a component of planning one’s own end-of-life — they could see and appreciate the value. A stone engraved memorial doesn’t have to be “just” a headstone with a name and some dates.

For some of the visitors to our booth, it was the first time they’d considered stone engraving as an art form, so they were interested to check out the samples on display. One of the most eye-catching pieces was Klimt’s The Kiss with the gold leaf embellishment.

We felt proud to present our work to a new audience, and have already been fielding inquiries from some of the people we met. Connection with clients is a big part of how we do business at Stonescapes — it's always fun for us to see how folks respond to the work and an absolute honor to share what we do.
